PALMER + PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A New Chapter, One Legacy of Education
We're proud to announce that the Virgia B. Palmer Scholarship Fund has been renamed the Virgia B. Palmer and Doris Perkins Scholarship Fund, honoring two women whose friendship and shared devotion to education have shaped generations of Simpson County students.
Our Mission
The Virgia B. Palmer and Doris Perkins Scholarship Fund exists to financially assist qualified individuals seeking to attend an accredited institution of higher learning. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of past academic performance, extra-curricular involvement, and potential for success.

Created in 2010, the fund was first established in memory of Virgia Bridges Palmer, a 65-year member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, and the matririarch of the Cotton Family. Her longtime friend Doris Nell Wilson-Perkins also dedicated nearly 40 years to teaching Mississippi's children and was the original treasurer of the scholarship fund.
In 2025, the fund was renamed to recognize this amazing friendship, with a scholarship fund that now bears both their names.
